Burkina Faso put up a top performance on Wednesday afternoon to defeat the Central African Republic 4-2 in their second match at the 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
The national teams of the two countries locked horns at the Benhamin Mkapa National Stadium, hoping to secure their first wins at the tournament.
In the Group B contest, Burkina Faso struck first in the first half, equalising through Papus Ouattara, just 11 minutes into the game.
Four minutes later, Sydney Tchibinda also found the net for the Central African Republic to level the game.
Despite the best efforts of the two teams, neither side could score again before the break.
After recess, penalties converted by Abdoul Abass Guiro and Patrick Malo in the 61st and 78th minutes, respectively, put Burkina Faso in control and on the road to victory.
Later in the 84th minute, Abdoul Baguian also scored to make it 4-1 for Burkina Faso. Although the Central African Republic would score a second in injury time through Ange Zoumara, it was not enough to save the side from a 4-2 defeat.
The win has taken Burkina Faso to second in the Group B standings with three points.
