The 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) is officially scheduled to take place in Cameroon from April 4th to 25th, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed following its executive committee meeting on Thursday. The announcement formalizes the dates previously indicated by Cameroon’s Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouele Kombi.

Originally, CHAN tournaments have traditionally been held in January and February, but delays in stadium construction and other preparations in the host country necessitated an adjustment to the schedule. With the new dates confirmed, all qualified nations can now finalize their preparations for the competition.

A total of 16 countries will participate in the final phase of CHAN 2020, representing some of the continent’s strongest domestic football talent. The qualified nations are Cameroon, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, Namibia, Togo, Morocco, Zimbabwe, DR Congo, Congo, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Niger, and Mali.

CAF’s confirmation of the schedule provides clarity for teams, fans, and organizers, ensuring that the championship will proceed as planned and allowing the host nation to complete the necessary logistical and infrastructure preparations ahead of the tournament. This edition of CHAN promises to showcase top domestic talent from across Africa while providing an exciting build-up to the broader continental football calendar.
