The Mauritanian national football team, the Mourabitounes, is gearing up for the upcoming African Nations Championship with thorough preparations. Since Tuesday, the team has been stationed in Blida, Algeria, for the second phase of its training ahead of the tournament scheduled for next year in South Africa.
In this training camp, Mauritanian coach Patrice Neveu has assembled a squad of 27 players. The team’s agenda includes three friendly matches against Algerian 1st division teams, all to be played behind closed doors. Neveu explained, “I asked the Algerians to allow us to play behind closed doors because that will allow me to make some adjustments.”
The Mourabitounes are set to remain in Algeria until December 10, after which they will return to Mauritania for the resumption of their national first division championship. The intensive preparation and strategic matches aim to enhance the team’s readiness for the upcoming African Nations Championship in South Africa.
