The Democratic Republic of Congo’s preparation for the CHAN (African Nations Championship) is facing significant challenges, with the team encountering organizational problems in South Africa. The team has been present for around ten days, despite CAF only supporting teams from January 8. The issues began with the team’s preparation in the DRC, where they lacked essential resources. Loans eventually allowed the team to travel to Polokwane, South Africa. On-site, a new problem arose as the delegation was expelled from a hotel due to non-payment of bills. A scheduled match against Mozambique had to be canceled.
The team faced further challenges, including a lack of accommodation, water shortages during training, and no indication of promised bonuses. The situation led the team captain, Trésor Mputu, to withdraw from the competition a month ago, citing poor organization around the national team. Despite being the first winner of the competition in 2009, the DRC faces hurdles in Group D alongside Gabon, Burundi, and Mauritania.
