The third edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) commenced on January 11 in Cape Town, South Africa. This tournament, exclusively for local players, is expected to be highly competitive, especially with the absence of the title holder, Tunisia. Six or seven teams are considered strong contenders for the trophy. Nigeria, the winner of the 2013 African Cup of Nations, is considered the favorite. Coach Stephen Keshi, who led the Super Eagles to victory in 2013, aims to replicate the success with the local team. Despite acknowledging the challenges of building a team for a major competition in a short time, Keshi expressed confidence in the readiness of his players both physically and mentally. Nigeria is placed in Group A alongside South Africa, Mali, and Mozambique for the group stage.
