Patson Daka and Enoch Mwepu were the stars as Red Bull Salzburg claimed victory over Genk in Wednesday’s Champions League clash, keeping the Austrian side firmly in contention for qualification.
Daka opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, marking his first goal in the Champions League. The Zambian forward, who previously won the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2017, made history by becoming only the second Zambian to score in the competition, following in the footsteps of the legendary Kalusha Bwalya.
Enoch Mwepu, Daka’s compatriot and teammate, played a pivotal role by providing two assists and was named Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution. The pair’s performance highlighted their growing influence at Salzburg and signaled a resurgence for Daka after a disappointing U23 AFCON 2019 campaign with Zambia.
The victory injects new momentum into Salzburg’s Champions League campaign, with Daka and Mwepu demonstrating their potential to make a significant impact on Europe’s biggest stage.
