PSG’s Blaise Matuidi Eyes Champions League Progress: “Time to Reach the Semi-Finals”
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi has outlined his ambitions for the upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign, declaring that the time has come for the French giants to break past the quarter-final barrier and aim for the semi-finals.
Drawn into a challenging group featuring Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Malmö FF, PSG will need to navigate a competitive early phase. But for Matuidi, it’s all part of the journey toward realising a long-held dream.
“We’re going to fight for first place while showing a lot of respect for Real Madrid, who are a great team,” said the France international.
“Winning the Champions League is the club’s dream. But it doesn’t happen overnight. It’s time for us to get past the quarter-finals and reach the semi-finals.”
Paris have reached the quarter-finals for three consecutive seasons but have fallen short each time, including heartbreaks against Chelsea and Barcelona in recent years. Now, with a strengthened squad and renewed ambition, Matuidi believes the team is better equipped than ever to make a deeper run.
PSG kick off their European journey on September 15 at home against Swedish side Malmö, followed by encounters with Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
With high expectations at the Parc des Princes and a squad brimming with international talent, Matuidi’s comments reflect PSG’s growing maturity on the continental stage—and a belief that this season could finally be their breakthrough.
