AC Milan suffered a setback on Wednesday evening against Atletico (0-1) in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. With elimination already looming in the Italian Cup and a disappointing 10th position in Serie A, the Lombard club now faces the risk of losing its last remaining objective for the season. Despite this, Milan showcased their best performance of the season against Atletico, coming closest to securing victory with several near misses, including hitting the post twice. However, their efforts were ultimately in vain as Diego Costa’s header in the 83rd minute sealed the win for Atletico.
The disappointing outcome left Adel Taarabt, one of Milan’s standout performers of the evening, filled with regret. The Moroccan international remains determined to reverse the situation in three weeks’ time at Vicente Calderon. “No, it’s not over. We played a good match, tactically perfect. We were unfortunate not to capitalize on two or three chances, notably by Kaka. We expended a lot of energy, and it showed towards the end of the match,” Taarabt affirmed.
