Blaise Matuidi on PSG’s Qualification and Upcoming Clasico Showdown
Paris Saint-Germain punched their ticket to the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday night with a narrow 1–0 win over Apoel Nicosia. Midfielder Blaise Matuidi was quick to highlight the importance of the result despite a lackluster finishing touch in front of goal.
“Tonight, we remember above all the victory and the qualification,” Matuidi told reporters post-match. “We played a good match, despite a lack of realism. The first objective has been achieved, now we will try to maintain our first place, despite the competition from Barça.”
Looking ahead to the highly anticipated Ligue 1 Clasico against league-leaders Marseille, Matuidi emphasized the stakes.
“In the meantime, we can think about the Clasico. It’s a big match. Marseille is ahead of us and we want to get back on track, so it will surely lead to a big match. I’m convinced that we will respond properly.”
With PSG trailing OM in the league standings, Sunday’s clash promises to be a key moment in the title race—and Matuidi clearly senses the urgency.
