Real Madrid attacker Kylian Mbappé could miss their Champions League return leg game against Atletico Madrid tonight due to pain.
The record champions defeated their rivals 2-1 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu last week.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Mbappé underwent a test this morning, and the results were positive, so he was called up to the match, but he is still feeling some pain in his ankle.
The newspaper indicated that the France international with Cameroonian descent may not be a starter, but the final decision rests with coach Carlo Ancelotti regarding his preference for Moroccan attacker Brahim Diaz.
“If Mbappé is not in the starting lineup, his replacement will be Diaz, but even the decision to include the Moroccan player is not easy, as Brahim has been suffering from a health problem in recent days,” the report said.
Diaz was scheduled to start against Rayo Vallecano last Sunday in La Liga but was forced to withdraw due to a flu diagnosis.
He was not feeling well until Monday, so Ancelotti allowed him to miss training. Despite the lingering symptoms, Diaz partially trained with the team yesterday.
The newspaper added: “Diaz is ready to play and can start, and he has informed the technical staff of this.”
