Horoya AC has filed a formal protest with CAF (Confederation of African Football) over the refereeing of their recent CAF Champions League quarter-final first-leg match against Wydad Casablanca.
In their letter, the Guinean club denounced what they called “biased and scandalous refereeing,” singling out three contentious incidents involving Gabonese referee Eric Otogo Castane and his assistants.
“Notwithstanding numerous other questionable decisions and manifest actions against Horoya by the refereeing trio, the facts cited above mark a totally biased, on the whole scandalous arbitration which distorted the result of the match,” the letter stated.
Tensions ran high during the game, with Otogo Castane reportedly having to be escorted to the locker room after local supporters hurled projectiles at the officials.
The match ended in a 0-0 draw, leaving Horoya with the difficult task of scoring in Casablanca next week if they hope to reach the semi-finals.
