Étoile Sportive du Sahel kicked off their CAF Champions League group stage campaign with a 1-0 victory over Al Ahly on Friday, in a high-profile African clash.
The decisive goal came in the 50th minute from Yassine Chikhaoui, who controlled a pass from Methnani with his chest before firing past Chennaoui. The match saw early drama, as Al Ahly were reduced to ten men within the first 15 minutes after Ayman Achraf was sent off for a foul on Hannachi. Later, both Chikhaoui and Al Ahly’s Ali Maâloul left the pitch due to muscle injuries.
This win places Étoile Sportive du Sahel joint top of Group B with Al Hilal, who also won their opening match against FC Platinum. The victory marks a strong start for the Tunisian side in the competition.
