African internationals showcased various performances during the second evening of the Champions League group matches on Wednesday:

  1. Didier Drogba:
    • Didier Drogba faced difficulties with Galatasaray against Real Madrid, losing 1-4 at the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite becoming the top African scorer in Champions League history with 42 goals, Drogba’s impact in the match was limited. He provided an assist for Umut Bulut’s goal but couldn’t prevent the defeat.
  2. Chancel Mbemba:
    • Chancel Mbemba had a mixed evening, scoring for Anderlecht but also conceding an own goal against Benfica. Despite his efforts, Anderlecht suffered a 2-3 defeat.
  3. Olympiakos vs. PSG:
    • Olympiakos, with only one African player (Gaétan Bong), held off PSG at the Parc des Princes. Despite coming back to score, the Greeks lost 1-2 in the last minutes. Congolese player Delvin Ndinga remained on the bench.
  4. Yaya Touré:
    • Yaya Touré didn’t score, but he played a crucial role in Manchester City’s 4-2 victory over Viktoria Plzen.
  5. Ahmed Musa:
    • Ahmed Musa, a starter for CSKA Moscow, couldn’t match the reigning European champion as Bayern Munich won comfortably in the Russian cold with a score of 3-1.

A night of diverse performances for African players in the Champions League.
