BENFICA WITHOUT TAARABT AND CARCELA FOR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE OPENER AGAINST ASTANA
Benfica Lisbon will begin their Champions League campaign this Tuesday without Adel Taarabt and Mehdi Carcela. The Portuguese club hosts FC Astana, but the two Moroccan internationals are absent from the squad.
Taarabt, who has yet to make an appearance this season, is still working on his fitness. Carcela, meanwhile, remains sidelined after suffering an ankle sprain in late August.
Benfica’s squad for the match:
-
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Julio César
-
Defenders: Lisandro Lopez, Luisão, Eliseu, Sílvio, Jardel, André Almeida, Nélson Semedo
-
Midfielders: Fejsa, Samaris, Gaitán, Gonçalo Guedes, Pizzi, Talisca, Victor Andrade, Nuno Santos
-
Forwards: Raúl Jiménez, Mitroglou, Jonas
Coach Rui Vitória will have to rely on the depth of his squad as Benfica aim to kick off their European journey with a win, despite the absence of their Moroccan duo.
