UEFA Champions League: Abdennour Named in Team of the Week
After a standout performance at the Emirates Stadium, Aymen Abdennour has been named in UEFA’s Team of the Week for the Champions League round of 16 first leg matches. The Tunisian defender played a key role in AS Monaco’s stunning 3-1 victory over Arsenal in London, earning widespread praise for his composure and defensive authority.
Abdennour is joined in the XI by his Monaco teammate Fabinho, who also impressed, particularly in midfield, where coach Leonardo Jardim deployed him to great effect. Monaco is the most represented club in the lineup, along with Bayer Leverkusen (featuring goalkeeper Bernd Leno and midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu) and Real Madrid (Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo).
Also included in the prestigious selection are:
Branislav Ivanović (Chelsea), who scored at the Parc des Princes against PSG,
Luis Suárez (Barcelona), who netted a brace in a 2-1 away win over Manchester City, and
Cristiano Ronaldo, continuing his prolific European form with Real Madrid.
The selection underlines the strong performances delivered by Monaco’s players during one of the most surprising results of the round.
