Chafik Abbas: French-Moroccan Cannes winger linked with Heracles Almelo move
French-Moroccan right winger Chafik Abbas of Cannes is being linked with a move to Dutch side Heracles Almelo in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. The 28-year-old, who is under contract with the Ligue 3 club until 30 June 2027, has emerged as a potential attacking option for the Eerste Divisie outfit as they look to strengthen their wide areas.
Abbas, a left-footed attacker born in Cholet, joined Cannes from GOAL FC on a free transfer in August 2024 and has since established himself in the attacking line for the historic Riviera club. His performances in the French lower leagues, particularly at National 1 and National 2 level, have brought him to the attention of clubs outside France, with Heracles now exploring the possibility of a deal.
Known for operating from the right flank, Abbas has posted consistent end product in recent seasons, including a standout National 2 campaign in which he scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 21 appearances. He has also shown an eye for goal in domestic cup competition, scoring eight times in 17 Coupe de France outings.
Heracles interest comes despite Abbas having previously made only a brief appearance in Ligue 2, with the bulk of his senior career spent across Frances semi-professional tiers. Any agreement would require Cannes to consider an offer for a player tied down for another year beyond this season, leaving the French club in a strong contractual position as discussions develop.
