Moroccan international Chadi Riad is back in action after a prolonged 18-month absence caused by a serious knee injury, setting his sights on reclaiming a spot with the Moroccan national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The young defender has recently resumed his journey with Crystal Palace in the English Premier League, determined to make an impact both domestically and internationally.
Riad’s struggles began shortly after his summer 2024 move to Crystal Palace, following previous stints with Barcelona and Real Betis. A serious knee injury, compounded by a setback during recovery, sidelined him for months and tested both his physical and mental resilience.
During this period, Riad underwent intensive rehabilitation, balancing gym work and therapy sessions while adapting to the rigours of English football. His family remained by his side in England, providing essential moral and psychological support.
“Thank God, I feel very well. It’s true that I went through a difficult period due to long injuries, but thank God I’m back with the team now. I feel good, and I finally feel like a football player again. I’m very happy to be back and able to help my team, both on and off the field,” Riad said.
He added, “I play football for Morocco. I’ve followed the national team since I was 14 or 15. Representing this country is a great honor. I’m very happy to have reached the first team after all these stages. I thank everyone who asks about me and wants to see me back with the national team. I also thank the coach, Walid Regragui, and my teammates.”
Riad’s return is a timely boost for both Crystal Palace and the Moroccan national team, as he aims to regain full fitness and form in time to contribute to the Atlas Lions’ World Cup campaign.
