Chad has taken a significant step towards developing its football structures after signing a strategic partnership with Spanish football league LaLiga.
The agreement was signed in Madrid by Chad’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Naïr Abakar, and LaLiga president Javier Tebas.
The partnership is aimed at strengthening the foundations of Chadian football, with youth development, the professionalisation of the national league and knowledge transfer identified as key areas of cooperation.
It forms part of a broader ambition by the Chadian authorities to improve the country’s football ecosystem and create greater opportunities for young players.
Under the partnership, Chad will seek to draw on LaLiga’s experience and expertise in areas including football development, league management and the professionalisation of domestic competitions.
The agreement also places particular emphasis on developing young talent, with the aim of creating stronger pathways for emerging Chadian players to progress within the sport.
For Chad, the partnership represents an attempt to build a more sustainable football structure rather than focusing solely on the performance of its national teams.
The professionalisation of the domestic league is also expected to be an important component of the initiative, as the country looks to improve the organisation and competitiveness of its national competition.
Knowledge transfer between Chadian football stakeholders and LaLiga will form another central pillar of the agreement, potentially giving administrators, coaches and other football professionals access to expertise developed within one of Europe’s leading football organisations.
Minister Naïr Abakar led the Chadian delegation during the agreement in Madrid, highlighting the government’s intention to place football development at the centre of its sporting agenda.
The partnership comes as several African countries seek international expertise and investment to strengthen their domestic football structures and improve pathways for young players.
LaLiga has increasingly expanded its engagement with African football through partnerships focused on professionalisation, education and development.
For Chad, the agreement with LaLiga is being positioned as a new chapter in the country’s football development, with the long-term objective of creating stronger institutions, improving the domestic league and giving young Chadians greater opportunities to pursue careers in football.
The partnership is therefore expected to go beyond the development of individual players, with its broader focus on building the structures and expertise needed to support the growth of football across the country.
