Ceramica Cleopatra deepens Modern Sport’s struggles with solid win
Ceramica Cleopatra delivered a spirited performance to claim a 2-0 win against Modern Sport at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia on Wednesday in the Egyptian Premier League.
The match was part of the eighth round and brought joy to Ceramica’s traveling fans.
After a cagey first half where Islam Issa thought he had scored only for the referee to rule it out due to a handball in the buildup, Ceramica came alive in the second period. Ragab Nabil opened the scoring in the 66th minute, breaking the deadlock with a composed finish. Just five minutes later, Nigerian striker Sadiq Igola doubled the lead, sealing the points for Ali Maher’s side.
The victory lifted Ceramica to 13 points and into fifth place, underlining their steady climb up the table. For Modern Sport, led by Magdy Abdel-Ati, it was another frustrating evening as they remained on 11 points in ninth, winless in three games.
Elsewhere at Cairo Stadium, National Bank and Wadi Degla shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, halting Wadi Degla’s four-game winning run.
