Due to the ongoing socio-political unrest in the Central African Republic (CAR), the Congo-Central Africa match in the 8th Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) Cup, scheduled for Tuesday in Bitam, has been canceled, as reported by the organizers.
The national team of the Central African Republic was unable to travel to the match “due to the tense socio-political situation currently prevailing in the country,” according to the organizers.
In the opening match on Monday, Gabon secured a 3-0 victory against Cameroon in Franceville. The tournament was designed to feature national selections with local players from the six CEMAC countries, including Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, and Chad.
The Central African Republic has been experiencing violent clashes following the dismissal of former President François Bozizé, who is currently in exile. A military operation called “Operation Sangaris,” involving France, the African Union, and CEMAC countries, is underway to disarm the Seleka militias. The tense situation has led to the cancellation of the Congo-Central Africa match in the CEMAC Cup.
