Celtics Haitham Hassan move takes shape with Champions League clause

Celtic have agreed a four-year deal to sign Egyptian winger Haitham Hassan from Spanish club Real Oviedo, with the contract set to run until the summer of 2030.

The agreement between all parties is understood to be 100% complete, according to trusted journalist Georgi Tsarouchas. Hassan has accepted the proposal from the Scottish champions, while Real Oviedo are also prepared to approve the departure of their player.

Some bonus payments remain subject to final negotiations, but the main terms of the transfer have been settled.

A significant financial bonus has been included in the proposed agreement. Hassan and Real Oviedo will both receive substantial additional payments if Celtic qualify for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

Tsarouchas had previously highlighted that clause in a report published on 26 July. The incentive would link Hassan’s transfer directly to Celtic’s success in reaching the main stage of European football’s premier club competition.

Celtic are pushing to complete what Tsarouchas described as a “huge” deal for the player he called a “World Cup star and Egyptian star”. Interest in Hassan has increased considerably after his impressive performance against Argentina, which helped draw wider attention to his ability.

Real Oviedo are seeking a fee of between €6m and €7m to sanction the winger’s departure. The final value of the transfer is therefore dependent not only on the basic fee but also on the outstanding bonuses currently being discussed by the clubs.

The move is not without competition. Other Spanish and English clubs have expressed an interest in Hassan, who has established himself as one of the emerging talents in La Liga.

Tsarouchas described the player as a “player worth watching” as Celtic work to secure his signature. The Scottish club’s willingness to include a major Champions League-related bonus underlines its determination to bring the Egyptian to Glasgow.

Although the remaining financial details still need to be finalised, the agreement over the four-year contract and Hassan’s decision to accept Celtic’s offer represent a major step towards completing the transfer.

For Real Oviedo, the deal would provide a substantial return of between €6m and €7m before any additional payments linked to Celtic’s European campaign. For Celtic, it would deliver a highly sought-after Egyptian winger while offering Hassan a route into the UEFA Champions League if the club reaches the league phase.

The transfer is expected to move forward once the bonus arrangements have been concluded.
