Celtic linked with French-Congolese centre-back Chrislain Matsima

French-Congolese defender Chrislain Matsima could be targeted by Celtic in a move from Augsburg, with the Scottish club linked with the 24-year-old centre-back.

Matsima joined Augsburg permanently from Monaco in July 2025 after spending the previous season on loan at the Bundesliga club. The German side paid a reported €5m for the transfer, completing a deal after his temporary spell.

The defender has made 48 Bundesliga appearances, scoring twice and providing two assists. He also has 50 Ligue 1 appearances from his time in France, where he developed at Monaco.

Matsima’s current contract with Augsburg runs until 30 June 2030, meaning Celtic would need to negotiate a permanent transfer rather than wait for his deal to expire. His market value is listed at €22m, although no potential fee has been established for the reported move.

He began his senior career with Monaco and also had loan spells at Lorient and Clermont Foot before moving to Germany. Matsima has been with Augsburg since August 2024, initially on loan, and remains contracted to the Bundesliga club.
