Celtic close in on Real Oviedo winger Haitham Hassan, reports Sky Sports

Celtic are close to completing the signing of Real Oviedo winger Haitham Hassan, with Sky Sports reporting that the Egypt international has been given permission to undergo a medical and finalise his move to the Scottish champions.

The deal is set to be worth £6m, with a further £3m available in performance-related bonuses. A significant part of that additional amount is expected to be paid if Celtic qualify for the Champions League group stage later this month.

Hassan, 24, reportedly arrived in Scotland a few hours before the medical scheduled for Tuesday. Celtic are keen to complete the transfer and register him quickly enough for him to be included in their squad for next Wednesday’s Champions League qualifying play-off first leg against Austrian side LASK.

The winner of that tie will progress to the main stage of the Champions League.

Celtic have made a strong start to the new Scottish league season and currently sit top of the table with six points from their opening two matches. The club are seeking to strengthen their squad as they pursue progress in Europe, while Hassan is set to make the move after contributing to Real Oviedo’s promotion to Spain’s top flight.

However, Real Oviedo returned to the second tier after only one season in La Liga. Hassan made 38 appearances for the club last season, providing three assists but failing to score.

The winger also featured twice for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup. He created a goal against Argentina and was involved in another in impressive fashion, although that goal was later disallowed following a review by video assistant referee technology.

Celtic’s proposed move for Hassan would therefore represent a significant step in the player’s career, with the Scottish club hoping his arrival can be completed in time for their upcoming Champions League campaign. The transfer remains subject to the medical and the completion of the relevant formalities.
