Celta Vigo’s Jonathan Bamba nearing exit, says coach Giráldez

Celta Vigo's Jonathan Bamba nearing exit, says coach Giráldez

Celta Vigo appears set to part ways with Ivorian forward Jonathan Bamba, with reports suggesting the Spanish club is actively exploring a transfer during the upcoming winter window.

Coach Claudio Giráldez addressed the speculation, offering measured comments ahead of his team’s next La Liga fixture.

Spanish outlets, including Relevo, have reported that Celta Vigo is open to selling Bamba, with the Saudi Pro League emerging as a potential destination.

As the winter transfer window approaches, the club’s willingness to offload the 28-year-old signals growing dissatisfaction with his performances since joining the team.

Speaking at a press conference, Giráldez acknowledged the rumors while emphasizing his intention to engage with the player directly.

“I’m going to sit down to talk with the players next week. I’m happy with everyone’s involvement.

When a player plays less, he might be on the verge of leaving, but I don’t see anyone disconnected or unhappy,” Giráldez said, addressing questions about Bamba’s potential departure.

Underwhelming Performances Spark Speculation

Bamba’s on-field contributions have fallen short of expectations during his time at Celta Vigo. In his debut season, the forward managed just three goals and two assists across 27 La Liga appearances.

These modest numbers failed to impress both the club’s management and its supporters.

This season, his struggles have deepened. In 12 appearances across all competitions, Bamba has yet to register a single goal or assist, raising further doubts about his place in the squad.

Despite his valuation of €6 million on Transfermarkt and a contract running until June 2026, his future at the club appears increasingly uncertain.

Possible Move to Saudi Arabia

With his form declining and limited playing opportunities, Celta Vigo seems keen to explore offers, particularly from the lucrative Saudi Pro League.

Such a move would not only provide financial relief but also open up opportunities for reinforcements during the transfer window.

While Giráldez expressed satisfaction with his squad’s overall commitment, he hinted at the reality that players with diminished roles might seek new opportunities.

Bamba’s case exemplifies this scenario, as the Ivorian forward faces the prospect of leaving the club after failing to make a significant impact in two seasons.

A Decision Looms

As the winter transfer window draws near, the next few weeks will be pivotal for Bamba and Celta Vigo.

Whether he stays to fight for his place or departs for new challenges remains to be seen, but the club’s openness to a potential transfer underscores the increasing pressure on underperforming players to deliver results.
