Celta Vigo reach verbal agreement for PSV winger Couhaib Driouech

Couhaib Driouech is close to leaving PSV for Celta Vigo in a deal worth about €8m, despite being left out of Morocco’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Celta Vigo, who have qualified for the Europa League this season, have reached a verbal agreement with the Dutch club for the 24-year-old winger, according to journalist Mounir Boualin.

Driouech is now negotiating the length of his contract with the Spanish side. The proposed move would give him the chance to restart his career in La Liga after a difficult period that has included an injury and a failed transfer to Rangers.

The Morocco international was overlooked for the 2026 World Cup despite ending the 2025-26 campaign strongly. He scored three goals and provided three assists in his final eight league appearances in the Netherlands.

His performances had attracted interest from several clubs. Red Bull Salzburg, Royal Antwerp, Wolverhampton and Nijmegen had all been monitoring his situation before Celta Vigo moved to the front of the queue.

Driouech had also been close to joining Rangers, but the Scottish club withdrew at the last moment because he was not immediately available. The player is currently recovering from a thigh injury and is expected to require at least six weeks of rehabilitation before he can make a full recovery.

The injury has already ruled him out of PSV’s opening four matches of the season. That includes Sunday’s home league victory over Groningen, when PSV recorded a 5-1 win.

Driouech was born in Haarlem and began his current campaign on the sidelines, leaving his potential move to Celta Vigo dependent on his recovery as well as the final details of his contract.

Although his omission from Morocco’s World Cup plans was a setback, the reported agreement between PSV and Celta Vigo offers him an immediate opportunity to continue his career in Spain. Celta Vigo’s qualification for the Europa League would also provide the winger with the prospect of competing in European football once he returns to fitness.

Driouech was part of the Morocco side that won the 2023 Africa Under-23 title. He is now waiting for his injury to settle before completing negotiations over a transfer that could bring PSV around €8m.

The deal has not yet been formally completed, but the verbal agreement leaves Celta Vigo in a strong position to sign the winger.
