Celta de Vigo sign Senegal defender Abdoulaye Faye from Leverkusen on loan

Senegal centre-back Abdoulaye Faye has joined Celta de Vigo from Leverkusen on loan, completing a move to the La Liga club on 3 August 2026.

The 21-year-old’s agreement runs until 30 June 2027, when the loan is scheduled to end and he is due to return to Leverkusen. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the move.

Faye, born in Kaolack, stands 1.91m tall and is left-footed. He plays primarily as a centre-back and arrives in Spain after spending the 2025-26 campaign with FC Lorient on loan from Leverkusen.

During his time in France, Faye made 17 appearances in Ligue 1. His wider career record also includes six Allsvenskan appearances and 22 matches in Sweden’s Superettan, as well as six Svenska Cupen games.

The defender began his European career with Swedish club Hacken after leaving Senegalese side Diambars FC in August 2023. He spent part of that first season on loan at Orgryte before returning to Hacken, where he was part of the side that won the Swedish Cup in 2025.

Leverkusen then signed Faye from Hacken on a permanent transfer in July 2025 for €2.7m. He immediately moved to Lorient on loan, gaining experience in Ligue 1 before returning to Germany at the end of the season.

Faye’s loan to Celta represents his latest move in a series of transfers since leaving Senegal, with the defender now contracted to remain with the Spanish club until the end of June 2027.
