The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Leopards fell short of their dream of reaching the quarter-finals in the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). In the must-win match against Mali on the final day of Group B, the Leopards managed only a 1-1 draw, eliminating them from the tournament.
Dieumerci Mbokani’s early goal from the penalty spot was canceled out by Mamadou Samassa, resulting in a third consecutive draw for the DRC and, unfortunately, an exit from the competition.
Midfielder Cédric Makiadi expressed the team’s frustration, particularly highlighting the missed opportunity to score a second goal. Despite showcasing their quality, including a draw against Ghana, the Leopards couldn’t secure the necessary wins to advance to the quarter-finals. The frustration was particularly emphasized regarding the missed chance against Niger, which, if won, would have propelled them to the next stage.
