Ivorian defender Cédric Kipré close to permanent Ipswich move

Cédric Kipré is on the verge of completing a permanent move to Ipswich Town after emerging as a central figure in the club’s promotion challenge.

The Ivorian defender joined Ipswich on loan from Stade de Reims at the start of the season and has since become a regular starter under manager Kieran McKenna.

His consistent displays at the heart of the defence have helped propel the club into third place in the Championship, firmly in contention for a play-off spot and a return to the Premier League.

Kipré has made 23 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals and one assist.

His influence at both ends of the pitch has been widely noted as Ipswich maintain their push for promotion.

Ipswich’s hierarchy are now considering activating the purchase option included in the loan agreement.

The clause is understood to be valued at €4.5m, with discussions already under way between the two clubs in an effort to finalise the transfer.

Should an agreement be reached, Kipré is expected to sign a three-year contract that would keep him at Portman Road until 2029.

Such a move would represent a significant step in the defender’s career, particularly with the prospect of Premier League football still within reach if Ipswich’s campaign ends in success.

The 28-year-old began his development at Paris Saint-Germain before later spending time with Leicester City earlier in his career. He remains under contract with Reims until June 2027, where he reportedly earns an annual salary of €1,090,000.

Kipré’s current market value is estimated at €2m, according to Transfermarkt. However, Ipswich’s willingness to meet the higher option fee reflects the importance placed on his contribution during a decisive stage of their season.

With negotiations progressing, a permanent deal now appears increasingly likely as Ipswich seek stability and continuity in their defensive ranks ahead of what could be a defining period for the club.
