Cedric Kaze appointed Kagera Sugar head coach after Sekhukhune United departure

Former Sekhukhune United and Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has been appointed head coach of Tanzanian club Kagera Sugar FC.

The Burundian coach has signed a contract running until June 2028, returning to management after his brief spell with Sekhukhune United came to an end.

Kaze left Babina Noko only seven days into the new season. Before joining Sekhukhune, he worked at Kaizer Chiefs, initially as an assistant coach before later taking on the role of co-coach.

His move to Kagera Sugar will take him back to a league he already knows. Kaze previously coached Young Africans during two separate spells, serving as head coach before later working as an assistant to Nasreddine Nabi.

He succeeds Juma Kaseja, who was in charge during Kagera Sugar’s difficult opening to the 2026/26 NBC Premier League season. Kaseja dissolved the club’s entire technical bench after the side began the campaign without a win.

Kaze’s immediate task will be to improve Kagera Sugar’s results and help the newly promoted club establish itself in Tanzania’s top division.

Kagera Sugar’s return to the top flight

Kagera Sugar are based in Bukoba, Tanzania, and play their home matches at Kaitaba Stadium. The city is 1439km from Dar es Salaam.

The club secured promotion back to the Tanzanian Premier League after an impressive campaign in the second tier. They finished second with 72 points from 30 league matches, recording 22 wins, six draws and only two defeats.

Their return to the top division has, however, proved difficult. Kagera Sugar remain without a victory this season, having taken two draws and suffered four defeats.

Kaze will therefore be expected to halt that run and guide the club through its first season back among Tanzania’s leading teams.
