AC Léopards aim to defend African Confederation Cup title, says Arnaud Monkam
AC Léopards de Dolisie midfielder Arnaud Monkam has declared his ambition to help his team retain the African Confederation Cup as the club prepares for a crucial semi-final tie.
Despite falling short in the Congo Cup, AC Léopards currently lead the domestic league and are focused on making further progress in continental competition. Monkam emphasized the club’s determination to succeed in the tournament and outlined their preparations ahead of the upcoming matches against Ivorian side Séwé Sport.
“We were unable to retain the Congo Cup, but in the Championship, we are leaders,” Monkam told cafonline.com. “In the African Cup, we continue to progress like Séwé Sport, our opponent in the semi-final. We are more or less familiar with Ivorian football since we played two matches against ASEC in the previous round.”
The Cameroonian midfielder, who has prior Confederation Cup experience with Coton Sport de Garoua, underlined the team’s focus on securing a strong result in the first leg in Abidjan before confirming their advantage at home.
“The wish of every player is to win the competition in which he participates. We take the match that awaits us very seriously with the objective of obtaining a good result in Abidjan and confirming it at home,” he added.
AC Léopards’ quest to retain the Confederation Cup highlights the growing stature of Central African clubs in continental football and adds further excitement to this year’s competition.
