Cassius Mailula dedicates Mamelodi Sundowns’ MTN8 triumph to late Jayden Adams
Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Cassius Mailula has dedicated the club’s latest trophy to the late Jayden Adams after celebrating a successful return to Chloorkop.
Sundowns defeated defending champions Orlando Pirates 2-0 in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night, securing Mailula’s second trophy since rejoining his boyhood club.
The 25-year-old returned to Mamelodi Sundowns on a permanent transfer after an unsuccessful spell with Major League Soccer side Toronto FC. He had moved to the Canadian club from the African champions in July 2023.
Mailula has made an immediate impact since coming back, scoring four goals in 11 appearances across all competitions during the 2026/27 season.
Speaking after the final, Mailula said he was pleased with the decision to return and praised the collective effort that has delivered silverware.
“I’m very proud of myself also for making the decision to come back to Sundowns,” he said on SuperSport TV.
“You can see already that I’ve got two trophies, so I’m happy.
“It shows that we worked hard together as a team. The mentality is right, you can see everyone wants it, everyone is contributing whenever given a chance.
“So, I think it’s very good for us to keep the momentum, for us to be very humble.
“To always remember we’re doing this for our brother Jayden [Adams].”
