The commercial crimes court in Palm Ridge has rescheduled the case against Danny Jordaan, the president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), to February 7, 2025.
Jordaan, along with his co-accused, appeared at the East Rand court facing allegations of misappropriating R1.3 million (approximately $71,000) from SAFA for personal use.
During the lengthy hearing, both the prosecution and defense presented applications; however, these were ultimately dismissed.
The defense sought to recuse its legal representative, while the prosecution aimed to have the case struck from the court roll.
Magistrate Sheron Soko-Rantao ruled that the lower court lacked jurisdiction to address these matters, citing Section 342a of the Criminal Procedures Act, which pertains to unreasonable delays in criminal proceedings.
The accusations against Jordaan stem from claims made by former SAFA vice-president William Mooka and other executives.
Investigations conducted by the Hawks, South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, revealed that between 2014 and 2018, Jordaan allegedly utilized federation funds for personal expenses, including hiring private security and engaging a public relations firm without board approval.
