The absence of Youssef Belkacemi, the General Director of Sonargis, at a crucial meeting discussing the rehabilitation of the Mohammed V sports complex in Casablanca, has sparked frustration among members of the Casablanca municipal council.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, aimed to address pressing concerns about the facility’s condition, which has been a source of public discontent.
An informed source revealed, “We were taken aback by the director’s absence, especially after he had been formally invited to provide answers regarding the state of the complex, which has been worrying the public.”
The meeting, part of the Animation and Monitoring Committee for the Mohammed V rehabilitation agreement, was attended by other officials, including Rachid Nafi, the central director of sports facilities.
However, council members expressed dissatisfaction with the responses provided during the session.
“We raised a series of observations that reflect the concerns of citizens,” the source continued.
“We expect these issues to be addressed in the upcoming meeting scheduled for mid-December at the Mohammed V complex in Casablanca.”
The Mohammed V complex, a historic and significant venue for Moroccan sports and cultural events, has faced mounting criticism in recent years over its deteriorating infrastructure and perceived mismanagement.
The absence of key decision-makers at discussions about its future has amplified frustrations among stakeholders.
The forthcoming meeting is anticipated to provide clearer answers and resolutions to restore confidence in the complex’s management and its potential to serve as a premier sports and cultural venue.
The situation remains closely watched by the public and local officials alike.
