Casa Sport, the Ziguinchor club, achieved a historic milestone in Senegalese football by clinching the national championship title on the last day of the second phase of the competition. In a crucial match against Diambars, their direct competitor for the national crown, Casa Sport secured victory and claimed the championship.
The decisive moment came in the 20th minute of the game when Abdoulaye Diallo found the net, putting Casa Sport in the lead. Diambars, needing only a draw on their home ground (Fodé Wade de Saly), faced a tough challenge. Despite their first season in Senegal’s Ligues 1 and holding a two-point advantage over Casa Sport before the final day, Diambars suffered a defeat, relegating them to the runner-up position.
This victory marks Casa Sport’s first Senegalese championship title and earns them a spot in the upcoming African League of Champion Clubs. Coach Demba Ramata Ndjaye led the team to this significant achievement, succeeding US Ouakam as the reigning champions. Casa Sport, founded in 1960, has previously secured two Senegal Cups (1979, 2011) and a Cup of the LSFP league (1980). This championship adds another illustrious accolade to their trophy cabinet after five previous attempts, including five runner-up finishes (1980, 1982, 1991, 2008, 2009).
