CAS ruling confirms Al Ahly as 2024/25 Egyptian League Champions after rejecting Pyramids appeal
Al Ahly SC have officially been confirmed as Egyptian Premier League champions after the Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected an appeal lodged by Pyramids FC.
Al Ahly announced via their official website that CAS ruled in their favour, dismissing Pyramids’ request to deduct three points from the Red Devils’ tally. The verdict settles months of controversy surrounding last season’s title race.
The dispute stemmed from Al Ahly’s decision to withdraw from their second-round clash against Zamalek SC after foreign referees were not appointed to officiate the match at the scheduled time.
The club had insisted on foreign officials, arguing that the conditions for the fixture were not met.
Initially, the League of Clubs imposed a sanction that included deducting three points in addition to awarding the match points. However, the league later revised its stance, citing a clause that permits it to take appropriate decisions in exceptional circumstances.
Officials considered the short time frame between the draw and the scheduled match date, which made it impossible to appoint foreign referees in line with regulations requiring advance notice.
Following several adjournments, CAS delivered its final ruling, confirming Al Ahly as champions of last season’s league campaign.
The decision officially secures the club’s 45th league title, further extending their record as the most decorated side in Egyptian football history.
