Carrick cools Amad Diallo exit talk as Sunderland link grows
Michael Carrick Michael Carrick has sought to defuse rising speculation around Amad Diallo’s future, stressing that the Manchester United winger has no reason for concern despite growing reports linking him with a move to Sunderland AFC.
Amad Diallo, who impressed during a productive loan spell at Sunderland that convinced Manchester United Manchester United of his Premier League potential, has found himself back in focus ahead of a return to Wearside this weekend.
While transfer chatter continues to build ahead of the summer window, Carrick has been keen to keep attention on the player’s development and current form.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Carrick was unequivocal in his praise for the winger’s mentality and recent contributions since returning from injury. He highlighted both his work rate and attitude within the squad, insisting the youngster remains in a strong headspace.
“He’s got nothing to feel down about or upset about and frustrated about because he’s got so much to look forward to and he’s so talented and so exciting and absolute joy to work with.”
The Manchester United interim boss also pointed to Amad’s consistency in training and matches, underlining the value he brings in and out of possession.
His comments arrive at a time when Sunderland are reportedly preparing a potential offer, having been strongly impressed by the 23-year-old’s impact during his previous spell.
Amad remains a popular figure at the Stadium of Light after scoring 14 goals during the 2022–23 campaign, a season that ended with Sunderland missing out on promotion following a Championship play-off semi-final defeat to Luton.
With United already securing Champions League qualification, Carrick could opt to rotate his squad, potentially offering Amad a chance to feature against his former club.
Sunderland, however, are expected to monitor him closely, with admiration from Wearside still evident.
