Borussia Dortmund’s new signing, Carney Chukwuemeka, won’t have to look far for support as he settles into life at BVB.
The Chelsea loanee, who joined Dortmund for the rest of the season, already has a strong bond with winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens—something that could accelerate his adaptation to the squad.
As Chukwuemeka revealed to BVB-TV, their friendship goes way back: “Jamie and I are really good friends. We also have the same group of friends outside of football.”
“I’ve known Jamie since he was still playing at Reading. I played for Northampton. We played against each other when we were so young—maybe U11 or so. (…) Then we saw each other again in the U19s.”
One surprise awaited Chukwuemeka upon his arrival—learning that his friend now speaks German. “What, Jamie learned German?!” he reacted when shown a video of Bynoe-Gittens speaking. “I wish I had a plan of what he was telling. This is motivation [for me]. That spurs me on now to start learning the language.”
Interestingly, despite being born in Austria, Chukwuemeka doesn’t speak German himself. Chukwuemeka is eligible to play for the national teams of Austria, England and Nigeria.
