Carney Chukwuemeka cuts holiday short to rejoin Borussia Dortmund early
Carney Chukwuemeka is wasting no time at Borussia Dortmund and will return to club duty earlier than expected after the World Cup.
According to WAZ, the midfielder has decided to shorten his holiday so he can join BVB’s pre-season trip to Japan and get straight back to work with his teammates.
The 22-year-old recently reached the knockout rounds of the tournament with Austria, which would normally entitle him to a longer break. Even so, Chukwuemeka wants to travel with the squad to the Far East, while compatriot and fellow Austria international Marcel Sabitzer has been given more time off and will not be part of the tour.
Chukwuemeka’s motivation is clear. After completing his first full season in Dortmund, which did not go as well as he had hoped on the pitch, he is determined to make a real breakthrough in the coming campaign. Joining pre-season early is his way of giving himself the best possible platform to do so.
Dortmund start their eight-day Japan tour on 26 July, with friendlies against Cerezo Osaka and FC Tokyo on the schedule.
