Carney Chukwuemeka back at Dortmund with minor muscle concern after Austria duty

Carney Chukwuemeka has returned to Borussia Dortmund carrying minor muscle problems after his international trip with Austria.

Dortmund coach Niko Kovac confirmed the midfielder is being assessed ahead of Friday’s Bundesliga home game against Werder Bremen. “Carney has brought back minor muscular problems from Austria or from the international trip,” Kovac said.

The club will wait until after the final training session before deciding whether Chukwuemeka can be involved. “We will still wait until tomorrow to see whether it is possible at the weekend or not,” Kovac added.

The injury concern is untimely for the 22-year-old, who has struggled for regular football since joining Dortmund. This season he has played only one game, a 25-minute appearance against Paderborn.

Chukwuemeka will hope the issue is minor and that he can use the coming weeks to build fitness and earn more opportunities under Kovac. Dortmund face a busy schedule, and the midfielder’s versatility could be useful if he is passed fit.

For now, Dortmund must wait for medical advice before naming him in the squad against Werder.
