Carlos Embalo: Left winger and free agent weighing up next move

Carlos Embalo has left Italian side Vigor Lamezia and is now without a club after his contract with the Serie D outfit came to an end. The 31-year-old left winger’s departure was completed on 05/12/2025, with no transfer fee involved and his new status listed simply as “Without Club” until 30/06/2026.

The Guinea-Bissau-born, Portugal-affiliated attacker, valued at €25k, thus enters the free-agent market after a brief spell at Vigor Lamezia. His exit marks the latest step in a career that has taken him across Italy, Belgium and Spain, and now leaves him open to offers domestically or from abroad.

Embalo joined Vigor Lamezia from Ciliverghe Calcio earlier in the 2025–26 campaign, having previously moved from Scafatese Calcio 1922 and Calcio Foggia 1920 in quick succession as he navigated the Italian lower leagues. Before that, he had spells at AS Cittadella and a more high-profile stint with Belgian side KAS Eupen, as well as a loan period in Spain’s AD Alcorcón. Earlier in his career he featured for Palermo, Brescia, Lecce and Carpi after leaving Portuguese side GD Chaves’ youth ranks for Italy.

A left winger by trade but comfortable across the attack and able to use both feet, Embalo built his reputation in Italy’s Serie B and Belgium’s top tier before seeing his market value decline from seven-figure peaks in his early twenties to its current €25k assessment during his time at Vigor Lamezia. That trajectory reflects a move from higher-profile leagues into Serie D, where he most recently competed in Girone I.

The move to free agency also underlines the ongoing international dimension of his career. Born in Bissau and holding both Guinea-Bissau and Portuguese nationality, Embalo has long been a player operating outside his home country’s domestic scene. His latest status as without a club maintains the prospect that his next step could again come away from Guinea-Bissau or Portugal, potentially keeping him in foreign competitions rather than returning to a home league.

Embalo’s transfer history illustrates a career shaped by constant movement: early switches between Palermo and a series of loans, a permanent move to Eupen in Belgium, then back to Italy with Cittadella and Foggia before drops into Scafatese, Ciliverghe and finally Vigor Lamezia. Each change has coincided with gradual adjustments in his role from promising prospect to experienced squad option in the lower tiers.

At 1.78m and with experience in multiple European countries, Embalo now faces a new phase as a free agent. His availability without a transfer fee and modest market value could make him an accessible short-term attacking option for clubs in need of depth on the flanks. How he uses this window to secure his next contract will play a significant role in determining the late chapter of a career that has already spanned more than a decade across several leagues.
