Carlos Baleba: Manchester United eye move for Brightons Cameroon midfielder

Carlos Baleba, the Cameroon defensive midfielder currently at Brighton, is being linked with a move to Manchester United as the Premier League side assess options to strengthen the centre of their midfield. The 22-year-old, who joined Brighton in August 2023, is under contract at the Amex Stadium until 30 June 2028, meaning United would likely need to pay a substantial fee to prise him away.

Baleba has become an established presence in Englands top flight, making 92 Premier League appearances for Brighton and scoring three goals. His growing importance on the south coast, combined with his age and contract length, is understood to be a key factor in his rising valuation, with his current market value listed at 55 million after previously peaking at 60 million.

Born in Douala on 3 January 2004, Baleba has developed into a specialist in the defensive midfield role, operating primarily as a shield in front of the back line and favouring his left foot. Brighton initially brought him in on a long-term deal with a view to building around him, and he has also featured in domestic cup competitions, including the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Any move in the current window would require negotiations with Brighton, who are under no contractual pressure to sell given Balebas deal runs for another two years. For now, the midfielder remains a Brighton player, with his long-term contract providing the Seagulls with a strong position as interest from Old Trafford emerges.
