Cape Verde’s national team, set to compete in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, exudes full confidence as they prepare to navigate through the group stage of the prestigious tournament.

The 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, featuring the participation of 24 national teams.

Cape Verde finds itself in Group 2 alongside football powerhouses Egypt and Ghana, as well as Mozambique.

The inaugural match for Cape Verde is against Ghana on January 14.

In an exclusive interview with btolat.com, Paulo Santos, the Vice President of the Cape Verde Football Federation, shared insights into the team’s preparations.

“We are currently in camp for the championship in Troia, Portugal,” he revealed.

Santos continued, “Following this, we will proceed to Tunisia for another training camp and a friendly match against the national team on January 5, just before traveling to Côte d’Ivoire.”

Regarding the tough competition in their group and the odds of qualification, Santos expressed unwavering confidence, stating, “We have great confidence in advancing from this group despite the presence of Egypt and Ghana.”

He acknowledged the stature of Egypt and Ghana in the group, saying, “Undoubtedly, Egypt and Ghana are the two strongest teams in the group, but we will fight vigorously to achieve positive results and secure qualification to the next stage.”

In conclusion, Santos emphasized the determination of Cape Verde to make a significant impact in the tournament.

“We are here to compete, and our goal is to advance as far as possible. We understand the challenges, but we believe in our capabilities,” he affirmed.

As Cape Verde braces for the Africa Cup of Nations, their resilience and optimism set the stage for an exciting competition in Group 2, where they aim to defy the odds and leave an indelible mark on the footballing landscape.
