The 19th edition of the African Under-20 Championship is scheduled to take place in Algeria from March 16 to 30. For the Egyptian juniors participating in this competition, the primary objective is to reach the semi-finals, as qualifying for the final four secures a ticket to the next U-20 World Cup.
Rabie Yassine, the technical director of the Egyptian U-20 team, emphasized that they have a dual mission: securing a place in the semi-finals, which would mean qualification for the U-20 World Cup, and then focusing on winning the title.
Drawn into Group A with Algeria (the host country), Ghana, and Benin, Egypt understands the challenges ahead. Yassine acknowledges the difficulty but believes it’s not impossible, emphasizing the need to defeat either Ghana or Algeria to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
However, Yassine expressed frustration with the preparation conditions, citing challenges with player availability due to club commitments. Despite these difficulties, he remains determined to achieve a good result in the competition
