The first half of the opening match between Algeria and Benin in the Under-20 CAN was relatively uneventful. While the Algerians had a good start in front of their home crowd, it was the Beninese who had the better opportunities. Lanignan, in particular, missed two chances to score, including a shot that hit the left post of the Torche goal just one minute before the end of the first half.
