Togo Cadet Hawks Gear Up for Crucial AFCON Qualifier Amid Ebola Precautions
The ongoing qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2015 in Morocco are overshadowing preparations for the Cadets’ upcoming AFCON qualifiers scheduled this weekend.
The Togo Cadet Hawks, still in contention for the tournament, are set to travel this Friday to face Guinea. Due to concerns over the Ebola virus outbreak, Guinea has relocated its home matches to Morocco as a precautionary measure imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to prevent the virus’s spread across the continent. This restriction will remain in place until mid-September.
After their impressive elimination of Senegal in the previous round, coach Kegbalo Kodjovi’s squad is now in the final qualifying stages for the 2015 AFCON, set to take place in Niger. The Togolese team has spent several days preparing for the encounter and recently played a friendly against top-flight club AS Togo Port. Despite a 2-0 defeat in that match, Kodjovi remains optimistic about his side’s chances.
Meanwhile, Guinea’s national team, the Syli National, has been based in El Jadida—the Moroccan city hosting the match—since last Thursday as they prepare for the important qualifier.
