What a tournament CAN 2013 has turned out to be, especially in Group D! The Maghreb region seems to be facing disappointment this evening.
Algeria, although eliminated from the CAN, initially believed it had salvaged some honor by taking a 2-0 lead against Ivory Coast. However, Didier Drogba’s team didn’t concede defeat and managed to stage a comeback! Algeria scored through S. Feghouli (64th sp) and E. Soudani (70th), but Ivory Coast countered with goals from the inevitable Didier Drogba (77th) and an own goal by D. Mesbah (81st).
The disappointment is palpable for Algeria. Meanwhile, Tunisia had a chance to secure victory against Togo, but with ten minutes remaining, K. Mouelhi, who had already scored the first goal from a penalty, missed a golden opportunity by shooting into Agassa’s left corner.
Togo, requiring only a draw to qualify, secured the necessary result, and for the first time in its history, it has advanced to the quarter-finals of the CAN! Despite the mixed emotions, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria are heading home with their heads held low after a disappointing CAN 2013.
