Morocco is preparing for an important double-header against Cape Verde as part of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, and head coach Hervé Renard has begun assembling his squad for the crucial fixtures. The Atlas Lions, aiming to secure maximum points and maintain momentum in the qualification campaign, will rely on a carefully selected group of players to execute Renard’s tactical plans and strategies on the pitch.

For this double confrontation, Renard has called up a total of 25 players. However, the team’s first training session, held on Monday afternoon, saw only 16 players in attendance. This initial session provided an opportunity for the squad to begin preparations under the guidance of the Moroccan coach, focusing on tactical organization, positional drills, and physical conditioning.

The 16 players present at the first training session were a blend of defensive solidity, midfield creativity, and attacking prowess. Goalkeeper Munir Kajoui and defenders Abdelali Mhamedi, Issam Chebake, Achraf Hakimi, and Abdelhamid El Kaoutari formed the defensive core, offering both experience and youthful energy at the back. Their presence allowed the coaching staff to start implementing defensive strategies and coordination, crucial for containing the threat posed by Cape Verde’s attacking players.

In midfield, Morocco was represented by Younes Belhanda, Karim El Ahmadi, Faycal Fajr, Romain Saiss, Mounir Obbadi, and Youssef Ait Bennasser. These players bring a combination of technical skill, ball distribution, and tactical awareness. Their role in controlling the midfield and linking play between defense and attack will be vital in both legs of the qualifying tie.

The attacking options in the session included Nabil Dirar, Youssef El Arabi, Oussama Tannane, Sofiane Boufal, and Mohamed Oulhaj. With their speed, creativity, and goal-scoring capabilities, these players will be tasked with breaking down Cape Verde’s defensive lines and converting chances into goals. The blend of experienced internationals and emerging talent ensures that Morocco can adapt to different scenarios during the matches.

While only 16 players attended the first session, the remaining members of the 25-man squad are expected to join in subsequent training sessions. This staggered arrival allows the coaching staff to manage workloads, focus on individual player preparation, and gradually build cohesion across the squad. By the time the team meets Cape Verde, Renard aims to have all players fully integrated and prepared for the tactical demands of the double encounter.

The upcoming matches are crucial for Morocco’s AFCON campaign. Securing victories against Cape Verde would not only strengthen their position in the group standings but also enhance the team’s confidence as they continue their push toward qualification. Renard’s careful selection and structured preparation reflect the importance of these matches and his intent to field a competitive, cohesive, and disciplined team.

In conclusion, Morocco’s first training session ahead of the Cape Verde qualifiers set the tone for an intensive preparation period. With a mix of defensive strength, midfield creativity, and attacking firepower, the Atlas Lions are gearing up for the double confrontation, aiming to deliver results and assert their authority in the 2017 AFCON qualifying campaign.
