Lesotho Coach Matete Eyes Historic Upset Against Algeria
As kickoff approaches in Maseru for the crucial 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Lesotho and Algeria, the hosts are dreaming of a historic upset.
Ranked 128th in the latest FIFA standings, Lesotho enter Sunday’s clash as clear underdogs against a star-studded Algerian side. However, head coach Seephephe Matete believes anything is possible on the pitch.
“You know, in football, there are always surprises,” said Matete in the pre-match press conference. “As I told you yesterday, everything will be decided on the pitch; nothing is impossible.”
While many observers predict a comfortable win for the Fennecs, Matete remains optimistic and deeply motivated.
“Of course, I’m very motivated, as are my players. If we beat Algeria, it will be the greatest achievement of my coaching career,” he added.
Algeria, one of the continent’s top-ranked sides, are expected to dominate proceedings, but with the unpredictable nature of African qualifiers and challenging local conditions, Matete and his side are determined to make the most of their moment on home soil.
