Algeria has expressed its eagerness to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). The country, which is already a candidate to organize the 2019 edition, is considering stepping in for Libya to host the 2017 CAN due to the political instability in Libya. Mohamed Tahmi, the Algerian Minister of Sports, stated, “We are ready to replace Libya in the event that the latter withdraws from the organization of the 2017 African Cup. We have the means to do this in the best possible way.” However, the decision ultimately rests with the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Libya, which was designated to host the 2013 CAN, had the organization withdrawn due to its internal instability, with South Africa taking over as the host.
