Tunisia Hit by Double Blow Ahead of AFCON 2015
Tunisia’s preparations for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations have taken a major hit, with two key players potentially ruled out of the tournament.
Fakhreddine Ben Youssef, a rising star who recently signed with FC Metz, has officially withdrawn after sustaining an injury during Tunisia’s 1-1 friendly draw against Algeria on Sunday. The news was confirmed by Mosaique FM. Ben Youssef, formerly of CS Sfaxien, was expected to play a vital role in the Carthage Eagles’ attack. His absence is a serious blow to Belgian coach Georges Leekens, who now faces the challenge of reshuffling his forward line.
Adding to Tunisia’s concerns, Saber Khalifa also picked up an injury in the same match. The Club Africain striker’s condition remains uncertain, but early reports suggest he may miss at least the group stage of the tournament.
Should Khalifa be officially ruled out, Edem Rejaibi and Haythem Jouini are reportedly being lined up as replacements, according to Kwaraji.com.
Tunisia is placed in Group B at the 2015 AFCON alongside:
Zambia
DR Congo
Cape Verde
With two attacking players sidelined, Tunisia’s depth and resilience will be tested early in the competition.
